Seoul International Drama Awards 2017: Park Bo Young nominated; Park Bo Gum, Ailee confirmed to attend

The awards ceremony will be held on September 7 and aired live on KBS2 TV.

The nominees for the 12th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) 2017 have been announced. It is nice to see that Park Bo-young has been nominated in the best actress category for her performance in 'Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.' In addition to Bo-young, Hallyu star Park Bo-gum and singer Ailee have also been confirmed to attend the awards ceremony.

As noted by Soompi, the official website of SDA 2017, seouldrama.org, has posted the full list of nominees for this year's awards ceremony. It mentions that 29 programs and 29 individuals were selected as finalists out of 266 entries from 55 countries. The shortlisted submissions were divided into eight TV Movies, four Comedies, nine Mini-Series, and eight Serial Dramas. The individual category awards are for best director, screenwriter, actor, and actress.

The two Korean dramas to have received nominations are KBS's 'The Red Teacher' and JTBC's 'Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,' in the TV Movie and Mini-Series categories, respectively. South Korean screenwriter Song Jae-jung has also been nominated for MBC drama 'W.'

As per a press release available at seouldrama.org, "Countries such as Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan receives spotlight as new entrants at this year's Seoul International Drama Awards." Actor Yoo Dong-geun, who announced the list of nominees for this year, said, "It was a great pleasure to see this year's record-breaking submissions proved that the SDA is being recognised as a prominent international awards ceremony for dramas."

The press release also mentions that South Korean TV Movie 'The Red Teacher' made it to the list of final nominees "after it received critical acclaim for great acting and well-written storyline." It is up against 'Beautiful World' ('Crow' segment) from Malaysia, 'Dar Angel' from the U.K., 'Desperate for Love' from Japan, 'Our Land' from Taiwan, 'Redemption Road' and 'The Boy Who Wants to Live' from Germany and Season 3 of 'The Brokenwood Mysteries,' from New Zealand.

'Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,' in the Mini-Series category, is up against 'Charité' from Germany, 'Complicated' from Israel, 'Deep Water' from Australia, 'Life Plan A and B' from Taiwan, 'Please, Love Me' from Belgium, 'Supermax' from Brazil, 'The Full-Time Wife Escapist' from Japan and 'This is Us' from U.S.A.

In the Competition category, winners at Seoul International Drama Awards are given the "Golden Bird Prize" and the runners-up receive the "Silver Bird prize." For the Non-Competition category, there's the "Jury's Special prize" and "The Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year" awards.

Soompi notes that Shin Dong-yup and Kim Jung-eun have been selected as the MCs of the 12th Seoul International Drama Awards. The ceremony will be held on September 7, at the KBS Hall in Yeouido island, Seoul. The performance times are 5.30 pm to 7.50 pm KST, with live airing on KBS2 TV.
