Singapore custodian Hassan Sunny is close to signing a S.League contract with Home United following the end of his two-year stint in Thai Premier League (TPL).

The 32-year-old, who joined Thai league's top-flight club Army United in 2014, signed a three-year-contract which would have seen him ply his trade in Thailand until 2017. However, he was released with a year left in his contract as the club was relegated at the end of 2016 season, which was cut short due to the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Hassan now is on the radar of Home United, who finished fourth last league S.League season. The Protectors have already signed the likes of Croatian striker Stipe Plazibat from Hougang United and defenders Afiq Younus and Fadli Kamis.

Home head coach Aidil Sharin was upbeat about bringing the experienced Singapore international to his unit, a move, according to him will benefit his team's backline immensely.

"We are very keen for him [Hassan] to come on board. With him around, it will give a lot of confidence to our defenders, because he can command and lead," Sharin said, as quoted by The Straits Times.

"This is exactly what we've been lacking this season. We need more experienced players to help our younger ones during high-pressure matches in which our opponents are aggressive."

Hassan though wants to get back to Thailand after he completes a year in the S.League and when the proposed Asean player-slot in the Thai league, comes into effect. The two-time AFF Suzuki Cup winning custodian rues missing "atmosphere and the level of football" at TPL but is excited about sharing his experience with his new club.

"If I play in the S-League, it would probably be for a year. I am looking for a new challenge and a new club, one which has a good set-up," Hassan added.

"And in the following year, when the Asean slot kicks in, hopefully I will be able to make it back to Thailand again. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the level of football over there and it is sad that I have to leave on a sudden note."
