Motorola had confirmed the rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat update for a spate of devices in its recent announcement on the official blog post, wherein the Moto X Play was also touted to receive the long-awaited Android Nougat update. With Moto G4 and Moto Z being recently updated to Android 7.0, it is likely that Moto X Play would be following soon as Lenovo has been releasing the Nougat updates in a phased manner.

Earlier, the Moto Z Droid and Z Droid Force embraced the new Nougat update in the US, followed by the flagship phones Moto G4 and G4 Plus.

Although there is no word on the exact release date of Nougat update for the Moto X Play, it is almost certain that the handset will skip the Android 7.0 update and grab the latest Android 7.1.1 update instead, with an expected release date set for Q1 2017.

As The Android Soul reports, this claim is further strengthened by the fact that the handset recently surfaced on GFXBench with Android 7.1.1 installed.

Consequently, it is ascertained that Motorola is already testing the latest Nougat build on the smartphone, ahead of its official release to the public. In other words, the rollout of Nougat update for the X Play looks like a mere formality.
