Overview

Middlesbrough suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final and saw them knocked out of the cup competition. The result was Aitor Karanka's last match in charge at the Riverside Stadium.

Steve Agnew is the caretaker manager in charge following Karanka's exit and he will be in charge of Boro for the first time when Manchester United visit the town. He will be looking to avoid a defeat at the hands of the Red Devils.

United enter this tie after registering a 1-0 victory over FC Rostov in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie. It was Juan Mata's second half goal that saw the English side progress 2-1 on aggregate.

Jose Mourinho has several selection headaches for the trip to face Boro. However, he has admitted to not give that as an excuse as he is hopeful of walking away from Middlesbrough with three points.
