Overview

Manchester City host Barcelona in a crucial Champions League 2016/17 fixture at the Etihad Stadium on 1 November.

City, who began the ongoing season in style under new manager Pep Guardiola, have been facing a slump in the recent past suffering a six-match winless streak, which included defeats to Tottenham and Manchester United.

The Citizens were also thumped 4-0 by Barcelona in their first leg at Camp Nou as Lionel Messi scored an impressive hat-trick. However, Guardiola's men got back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday, thrashing West Bromwich Albion 4-0.

A lot will depend on Sergio Aguero on Tuesday as the striker has found his form back with a brace on Saturday. The Argentine, who did not start at Camp Nou, will be expected to deliver the goods.

City will miss first-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo as he saw red in the first round-robin clash against the La Liga side. Pablo Zabaleta, who suffered an injury layoff, is likely to return but Bacary Sagna will be out with hamstring issues.

Guardiola has maintained that they cannot afford a defeat as it would hamper their chances of making it past the group stages of the tournament. Borussia Monchengladbach are a point behind City and with only three more games to go, the Premier League side are at the risk of falling behind.

"We have to play in that way - like a final. It's not a final for them, it is a final for us. There are just three games left," Guardiola was quoted as saying by the Sky Sports.

On the other hand, Luis Enrique's men will be without injured playmaker Andres Iniesta. They will also miss Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba. However, the availability of an in-form Messi is likely to trouble the opposition camp.
