Manchester United had a perfect start to their Premier League campaign, but manager Jose Mourinho refused to get carried away.
United defeated West ham United 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with a Man Of The Match display from new signing Nemanja Matic. Two goals from Romelu Lukaku on either side of half time, and one each from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba completed the rout.
The win put Mourinho's side, even if temporarily, on the top of the table.
The boss said he was impressed with the quality of football and the confidence level shown by his players but even so, wanted to have his feet firmly on the ground, as reported by the Dailymail.
"For me, years and years of experience and experience in the Premier League, my feet are on the ground and I am calm.
"Last season we were also top of the league in the first match (a 3-1 win at Bournemouth) and we finished sixth, so this means nothing.
Speaking about the game to Sky Sports, he said that he was impressed the confidence levels of his team.
"I don't think the game was 4-0 but you score the third and you breathe and relax and play with more confidence. It was a difficult game for us," he told Sky Sports.
"We didn't start especially well, maybe we were a bit nervous, but then we had a quality performance, good personality and word which I like: confidence.
When asked about the performances of new signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, he said:
"First of all, they are obviously top players", Mourinho said.
"Secondly, they've played for years and years in the Premier League so it's nothing new for them - only the club and the colleagues, not even the manager as they worked with me before.
Speaking of his other new signing Victor Lindelof's omission from the matchday squad, the United boss said he was not yet ready for the Premier League, according to ESPN.
"I think Real Madrid was too early for him," he told a news conference.
"He played because Jones and Bailly were both suspended. I had players coming from different leagues to the Premier League and normally it is not easy.
"I think Victor needs time, a little bit of time. He's going to have that time."
