K-Pop star Minzy opens up about leaving 2NE1 girl group, reveals future plans

Minzy's contract ended on May 5, 2016, but unfortunately Kong Minzy did not go forth - YG Entertainment

Former South Korean girl group member Minzy has finally broken the silence over her sudden departure from the YG Entertainment band '2NE1' last month.

In her hand-written note on Instagram, the mandopop singer has extended apologies to her fans who were disheartened to learn about the singer leaving the group.

While the 22-year-old did not disclose the cause of her stepping out in the note, she stated that her decision has been taken "after careful consideration and much deliberation". The singer also affirmed that she is all set for her comeback and to " pursue a new journey as an artist named Minzy Kong.".

Minzy debuted in the internationally successful K-Pop girl group 2NE1 in 2009, and was a youngest member in the band. Now 2NE1 is left with three members including CL (Lee Chaelin), Dara (Sandara Park), and Park Bom, who are working on their grand comeback.

Meanwhile, CEO of YG entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, released a statement stating that Minzy did not wish to renew her contract with the company. He said: "With their contracts ending on May 5, 2016, we met with each member to discuss contract renewals and terms but unfortunately Kong Minzy did not go forth."

"Sending away someone who has been with us for 11 years since her trainee days is difficult for all but due to the sudden hiatus, Kong Minzy had some hard times that we fully understand. Rather than feeling upset, we are apologetic towards her," Hyun Suk asserted in the official note.
