Jung ll Woo becomes first Korean actor to play main lead in Thai series

Jung Il-woo, who has starred in dozen of Korean dramas, debuted in 2006 with a minor role in the thriller The World of Silence.

Hallyu star Jung Il-woo will be seen playing a protagonist in a Thai drama series soon. The 28-year-old actor has reportedly become the first Korean actor to bag the main lead in Thailand entertainment drama industry.

According to Il-woo's representatives, the actor flew to Bangkok on Sunday to kick-start his shooting schedule. Il-woo will portray the character of public relations manager of a giant entertainment agency, in the tentatively titled TV drama Love and Lies (Gon rak game ma ya).

As per quotes from the 49 Day's actor's media agency, Il-woo chose the Thai drama because "It seemed like a very meaningful project."

The staffer added: "No doubt, he feels great responsibility toward his first time acting in Thailand. He's working hard with the heart of someone taking on a new challenge. Please show your love and attention for Jung Il Woo's new drama, which contains his strong passion."

The team also stated that Il-woo wanted to grab the opportunity as he feels "Southeast Asia is a highly viable market for hallyu, after China."

Il-woo, who has starred in a dozen of Korean dramas, debuted in 2006 with a minor role in the thriller The World of Silence. He rose to fame with a family sitcom, Unstoppable High Kick in the same year. He was also seen in hits including The Return of Iljimae, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and The Night Watchman's Journal.
