Actress Jessica Chastain has applauded actress Salma Hayek for coming forward with sexual harassment allegations against disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

"I thank you Salma Hayek for sharing your story. Your voice is important and needed right now. You are creating a place of great healing," Chastain tweeted on Wednesday, reports dailymail.co.uk.

She added: "I ask all of our male allies in this industry, why have your journeys been so different from ours?"

Hayek joined the ranks of Hollywood women accusing movie producer Weinstein of sexual misconduct and called him "monster" in an op-ed she wrote for the New York Times.

Actress Salma Hayek broke the internet after declaring that the Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is nothing but a rage-fuelled "monster", alleging he sexually harassed and threatened her. Weinstein, however, denied the accusation.

Writing in the New York Times, Hayek said Weinstein once told her: "I will kill you, don't think I can't," BBC reported on Wednesday.

Dozens of actresses, including Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have accused Weinstein of harassment or assault. He has denied all the allegations of non-consensual sex.

"For years, he was my monster," Hayek wrote in the opinion piece in which she included descriptions of sexual harassment, bullying and threats.
