Holi, the festival of colours, is almost here and Indians across the globe will celebrate the festival with much fervour and enthusiasm. The festival marks the beginning of spring.

The celebration, which is marked by the overwhelming use of colours, is said to commemorate the victory of good over evil and centres around the story of how Prahlad, the devoted worshipper of Lord Vishnu, was saved when demon king Hiranyakashyap's sister 'Holika' took him into blazing fire to burn him.

While Prahlad was saved by the Lord, Holika was burned and hence the name 'Holi' was derived. The two-day festival falls on the full moon day of the Phalgun month in the Hindu calendar. This year, Chhoti Holi falls on March 12 and Ragwali Holi falls on March 13.

As you gear up to celebrate the festival, IBTimes Singapore compiled the best text messages that you can send to wish your loved ones on Holi 2017.
