G-Friend bags top chart, reveals IU as their role model

Girl group GFriend released their first full-length album LOL in July 2016

Girl group G-Friend is quite fond of singer-songwriter, IU. The six-member gang revealed that they look up to the multi-talented performer as their role model, and would love to step into her shoes.

During their recent photo shoot with The Star magazine, the girls relayed: "Our role model is IU sunbaenim. We want to be like her not just as a singer, but also in her multi-talented image." The South Korean girl group, who debuted in 2015, is currently busy topping the music chart with the release of their first full-length album LOL in July 2016.

The girls are giving tough competition to other rookie groups, however, they are still worried about their position and fierce competition. "We'd be lying if we said we're not concerned at all. But the good side is that we love listening to girl group songs in the car, so we can add even more songs to our playlist," they told the media outlet.

Meanwhile, as per Korean Business Research Institute, the popularity of G-Friend is reaching new heights. The six-member group, which includes Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB and Umji, have bagged the 'first place with 1,150,500 for participation, 2,982,966 for communication, and 1,851,053 for community, resulting in a total score of 5,984,519 for their brand reputation', Soompi revealed. While TWICE and IOI made them available at second and third position respectively.

Other girl groups ranked for girl group brand power for August (from July 12 to August 13)included, Wonder Girls, Lovelyz, Oh My Girl, gugudan, Girls Day, AOA, A Pink, Rainbow, Nine Muses, Red Velvet, Girls' Generation, SISTAR, MAMAMOO, T-ara, EXID, Fiestar, and Secret.
