Overview

England come into this fixture after their former manager Sam Allardyce resigned from his post following a newspaper sting, where the former Sunderland and Newcastle United manager was found advising fake businessmen on how to evade the Football Association's rules on player transfers.

The FA parted ways with Allardyce just 67 days after appointing him as Roy Hodgson's successor. He has been replaced by Gareth Southgate, who will be the interim manager for the Three Lions' next four matches, starting from Saturday.

Malta are without a win in the last five matches played in all competitions. In these fixtures, they have managed one clean sheet, which came during a goalless draw against Moldova and it will be a tough task for them to keep another clean sheet against England at Wembley.

Southgate will be hoping that England can register a comfortable victory in order to set things right on the field after a series of off-field events brought shame to English football.
