Apple opens official Instagram account for iPhone photography buffs

Use the hashtag #ShotoniPhone to take part on Apple's iPhone photography.

Apple now has an official Instagram account to feature stunning iPhone photos that deserve recognition. By using the hashtag #ShotoniPhone, mobile photography enthusiasts can now take part and get a chance to get featured.

Apple on Tuesday launched its official account @Apple on photo-sharing app Instagram which will be used as a platform to curate beautiful and share-worthy photos taken using any iPhone models. In less than 24 hours, the account has already amassed more than 308,000 followers as of the press time and it is growing a thousand more after each minute.

Each post usually has five photos and clips in a series taken by different mobile photographers. So far, subjects featured vary ranging from portraits, landscape, wildlife, macro and streets. Interested participants can use the #ShotoniPhone tag for a chance to be featured. Even before Apple's launch, this tag already exists on Instagram which now has almost 1 million public posts.

Apple notes the official entry of the campaign on Instagram is "a look through the lens of iPhone users around the world". It stresses out that the Shot on iPhone campaign is an extension of its existing iPhone photography promotion with a similar name.

With the overwhelming popularity of Instagram, it comes with no surprise why the Cupertino, California-based giant has chosen the platform for the campaign. Apple on Instagram is not the first official account of the company. It also has Apple Music, iTunes, Carpool Karaoke, Beats 1, iBooks and Planet of the Apps.
