Overview

Adelaide Strikers are heading into Monday's Big Bash League game after a solid six-day break. They faced defeat in their last outing on 10 January against table-toppers, Melbourne Stars in a closely-fought content on the road.

Opening batsman Ben Dunk was once the top-scorer (35 from 25 balls), this time in a low-scoring contest where the Strikers made 152 after being asked to bat. Brad Hodge's men were looking good to seal a win after New Zealand import Ish Sodhi had taken two crucial wickets but a late burst from Ben Hilfenhaus took stars over the line in the last over.

Strikers are reeling at the bottom of the table with only two wins from six games. They are on a two-match losing streak as well and their inconsistent batting order is among the major factors that has let them down this season. Except Dunk, none of the other batsmen, including skipper Hodge and Kieron Pollard have been able to contribute consistently.

In-form strikers bowlers Ben Laughlin and Ish Sodhi are crucial to their chances today as Adelaide Oval has always been a batting paradise. Notably, Melbourne Renegades are coming into Monday's tie after losing a high-scoring contest against Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday.

It is high time that the Renegades bowling unit, which has the likes of Bradd Hogg, Sunil Narine and Thisara Perera, steps up and helps the team deliver right results. A win on Monday will help them keep the pressure on the top-four teams but a negative result will mean the end of their campaign this season. Both Renegades and Strikers have a lot to play for at the Adelaide Oval.
